Efs & Vees, Kimberly Ann Southwick

once, a man promised me he wasn’t
what this owl says he is. foolish enough
to believe, i would lie in bed awake,
chest cavity like a cage, the rattle
of my peach pit heart. the rain hides the rest
and the tide compels—the rise and fall of it,
all the ups and downs
of humans as humans.
